YouTube’s algorithm sent me this gem of a channel this morning: Nybbles and Bytes. It’s one of those PBS-style retro computing shows like Explaining Computers except for two very important differences:
1. The focus is on low level software programming on retro computers
2. The host is a trans femme
This is literally new new favorite channel and I hope anyone interested gives her a subscription because support our family!
@StephanieRose yes! YouTube recommended this to me too and I loved it!
@StephanieRose ooh, literally just noticed this on the front page of my youtube recommended, i'll check it out!
@StephanieRose Yeah, I got this one as well and it's pretty lucky that it's exactly the same as the stuff I've been watching lol
@cambrian_era it feels like exactly what I wish Explaining Computers had: a focus on software and a cute trans girl host 😂
@StephanieRose Can't watch right now, but subscribed so i can watch it later.
Nerdy trans girls talking computers at me, and it's not even my birthday
@StephanieRose "Retro"? That's where I started, writing 6502 machine code on an Apple II. Does that mean I'm retro now?
@pzmyers it’s where I started too (Commodore 6510 but same diff), so I’m right there with you!
@StephanieRose Thank you!
@StephanieRose *hits subscribe instantly*
@StephanieRose holy shit this is the best show ever
@StephanieRose Subbed after watching just 30 seconds of it. Great stuff! And she's right. Most of those channels on YouTube, some of which I am subbed to also, do practically everything she mentioned *except* what she's doing.
Kind of reminds me of some #retrocomputing podcasts like Floppy Days where they cover the unusual stuff about the history. We need more content like this covering old computers used in new ways. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Subscribed for later poking
@StephanieRose she has one of my cousins on her desk, I'm sold
@StephanieRose omg yessss
@StephanieRose I'm going to have to check that out, though I suspect the specific systems in use will differ from those I was acquainted with. ^_^
@StephanieRose Thanks for tooting about this, insta-subscribe!
@StephanieRose I already loved watching LGR and 8-Bit Guy, so seeing them comment with well wishes on her first video is awesome.
Plus, hey, I've been wanting a C128 (never had a C64, just a VIC20 and Coleco ADAM) *anyway*... along with an Amiga, at some point, to play with, so hey. Perfect.
This is excellent!
Peertube mirror, please
@StephanieRose Got the same via the recommendations. Strange to see YouTube recommendations work for once, and for so many people at the same time, and even for such a new channel!
@StephanieRose What kind of sacred rites and obscure rituals do you need to be performing for the algorithm to actively suggest GOOD stuff at you? Goddamn.
@StephanieRose thanks for the recommendation!!
